What is Glyco-Flex

Glyco-Flex is a renowned line of joint supplements for dogs, cats, and horses by Vetri-Science Laboratories. Many of their products contain glucosamine, MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), Green Lipped Mussel (perna canaliculus), vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to help protect joint health, prevent cartilage breakdown, and improve mobility.

Glyco-Flex has products for dogs and cats that provide three different levels of joint support (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced). Glyco-Flex I is recommended by veterinarians for dogs, puppies, and kittens that need joint support early on in their lives. The canine formula includes Green Lipped Mussel, glucosamine, and DMG. Glyco-Flex II has the same ingredients in greater quantities and added MSM and manganese for pets that need moderate joint support. Glyco-Flex III is the third stage in Vetri-Science's line of comprehensive joint supplements. It contains the highest concentrations of glucosamine, MSM, Green Lipped Mussel, DMG, as well as vitamins E and C, manganese, grape seed extract, L-glutathione, and selenium. These ingredients work together to help reduce joint pain and inflammation, improve mobility, and protect cartilage from further damage. These three levels of Glyco-Flex are available as chewable tablets or soft chews.

Vetri-Science also manufactures Glyco-Flex in two different strengths for horses that have need for either mild or severe joint support. Glyco-Flex EQ and Glyco-Flex II EQ are available in palatable powders and pellets. Each strength contains perna canaliculus (Green Lipped Mussel), and the more potent Glyco-Flex II EQ has added glucosamine, MSM, and manganese. These supplements may help maintain your horse's joint health, relieve arthritis symptoms, and improve mobility.

The different products in the Glyco-Flex line are geared toward different life stages and the level of joint support needed. All of the formulas work to help protect cartilage, synovial fluid, ligaments, and tendons. Consult with your veterinarian to find out which supplement is best for your pet.

Glyco-Flex Frequently Asked Questions

What is Glyco-Flex and how does it work?

Glyco-Flex is a line of joint supplements for dogs, cats, and horses that contain Green Lipped Mussel (perna canaliculus) and other beneficial ingredients. Glyco-Flex helps reduce joint pain and inflammation and helps protect cartilage from further damage. These supplements can be given to pets suffering from arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, and other kinds of joint pain. Individual products are geared toward different life stages and levels of need for joint support. Glyco-Flex helps maintain comfortable mobility by promoting the health of connective tissue, joints, cartilage, and synovial fluid.

What is Green Lipped Mussel?

Green Lipped Mussel is a shellfish from New Zealand that is a natural source of minerals, amino acids, and glycosaminoglycans (including chondroitin), which are used as the building blocks of cartilage. In Glyco-Flex the entire organism is utilized, unlike some other Green Lipped Mussel joint supplements, in order to give your pet greater levels of anti-inflammatory action.

How should Glyco-Flex be used?

The different strengths of Glyco-Flex are designed to meet your pet's needs. Products like Glyco-Flex III are for pets with an advanced need of joint support, while Glyoc-Flex Classic is for pets who only require basic joint support. Be sure to follow all label and manufacturer instructions, and consult with a veterinarian before starting your pet on a new supplement regimen.

What are the side effects?

The manufacturer, Vetri-Science, has not reported any side effects.

What if a side effect occurs while using Glyco-Flex?

Stop administering Glyco-Flex and contact your veterinarian. Seek emergency veterinary treatment for such an allergic reaction. Signs may include itching, rash, hives, vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, facial swelling, cold limbs, seizures, shock, and coma.

Do I need a prescription for Glyco-Flex?

No. All varieties of Glyco-Flex are over-the-counter supplements.

What stage of Glyco-Flex is right for my pet?

This all depends upon your pet's weight and their current level of joint health. Senior dogs, dogs with arthritis, and working dogs might be better served by the higher levels of glucosamine and MSM in Glyco-Flex III Tablets or Soft Chews, but you should consult with your veterinarian to find the right joint supplement for your pet.

What are the differences between the different Glyco-Flex products?

The main difference between the different stages of Glyco-Flex is the levels of active ingredients in each tablet, soft chew, powder, or pellet. For example, Glyco-Flex Classic for Dogs has only Green Lipped Mussel (perna canaliculus) as its active ingredient, whereas Glyco-Flex III for Dogs has Green Lipped Mussel, glucosamine, MSM, DMG, and more.

Glyco-Flex EQ Pellets have Green Lipped Mussel as their only active ingredient, but Glyco-Flex II EQ Pellets provide Green Lipped Mussel, glucosamine, MSM, and manganese. What product is right for your animal depends on their specific needs and the recommendation of your veterinarian.

My pet won't accept Glyco-Flex Chewable Tablets. What should I do?

If your pet won't accept the chewable tablets, there are multiple options you can try. You can crumble up the tablets and mix them in with your pet's wet food or with treats. Another option is to hide the tablets inside Pill Pockets. A third option is to switch your pet from chewable tablets to Glyco-Flex Soft Chews. Many pets eat them as if they were treats by themselves.

Can I give my Glyco-Flex while they are already taking Rimadyl or another prescribed NSAID?

Because Glyco-Flex is a supplement and does not contain medications, it can be given to dogs who are already taking Rimadyl, Carprofen, Vetprofen, etc. However, because every pet may react to supplements differently, consult with your veterinarian beforehand.

Glyco-Flex products contain Green Lipped Mussel, and some pets may be allergic to shellfish. Itching may be a sign of an allergic reaction caused by the shellfish. If your dog becomes itchy after taking Glyco-Flex or has any other kind of reaction, stop administering the supplement and seek veterinary care.

Can I give my dog Glyco-Flex while they are on Proin?

While Vetri-Science does not list any cautions regarding Proin and other medications to treat urinary incontinence, you should consult your veterinarian before starting your pet on a new supplement regimen, especially if they are already taking other medications.

Can I give the canine Glyco-Flex products to my cat?

No. Only give Glyco-Flex to animals listed on the product labels and instructions. Glyco-Flex for Dogs is calibrated for the specific needs of dogs with joint pain, while Glyco-Flex for Cats is designed to address feline joint problems only. If you give your dog a Glyco-Flex product for cats, the levels of active ingredients may not be enough to help your pet's condition. The opposite applies to cats; the levels of Green Lipped Mussel, glucosamine, etc. in canine Gylco-Flex are much higher than those found in the feline versions.

Will Glyco-Flex affect my dog's diabetes?

According to the manufacturer's materials and cautions, if your animal has diabetes or any other metabolic disorder causes hypoglycemia, consult your veterinarian before giving them Glyco-Flex.
