Adequan Canine is an injectable solution
used to treat arthritis, joint pain and inflammation, and joint degeneration
in dogs. Not only does it control symptoms associated with aging and
arthritic joints, it also supports regrowth of cartilage and increases
synovial fluid in the joints.

Adequan I.A. Equine and Adequan I.M
Equine are joint relief medications used in aging and arthritic horses.
These products treat joint dysfunction and associated lameness by slowing
the degeneration of joints and improving their function. They accomplish
this by promoting cartilage regrowth and thicker synovial fluid.

Adequan Canine is intended for use
in dogs. Do not use in other animals. Do not administer to any animal
for which it was not prescribed by a veterinarian. Not for use in humans.
Do not permit children to administer
Adequan Canine.
Review all manufacturer instructions
and warnings prior to use. Use exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian.
Directions for Adequan Canine:
- Sterilize a syringe and
the site of injection with a topical disinfectant.
- Dose your dog at 2 mg per
pound of body weight (1 mL per 50 lbs.).
- Administer the injection
intramuscularly.
- Give your dog the injection
twice per week for up to 4 weeks. Do not administer a regimen of more
than 8 injections.
Directions for Adequan I.A.:
- Sterilize the syringe and
shave and sterilize the site of injection.
- Give the horse 1 vial (250
mg) once per week for 5 weeks.
- Make the injection intra-articularly
in a carpal joint as instructed by your veterinarian.
Directions for Adequan I.M.:
- Sterilize the syringe and
the site of injection.
- Give the horse 500 mg every
4 days for a period of 28 days.
- Make the injection intramuscularly
as instructed by your veterinarian.
Frequency of Use:
The standard schedule of administration
for Adequan Canine solution is twice weekly for up to 4 weeks.
In the event of a missed dose, administer
it upon remembering it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose,
just wait. Never administer a double dose of this medication.
Storage:
Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Store Adequan Canine in its original
vial between 64 and 77 degrees F.
It is a violation of Federal Law
to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Adequan Canine (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan)
Adequan Canine Solution is sold in
5 mL preserved multiple dose vials providing 100 mg/mL polysulfated
glycosaminoglycans.
Active ingredients:
Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan 100 mg, benzyl alcohol (a preservative)
0.9% v/v, water
Inactive ingredients: Sodium
hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid added when necessary to adjust pH.
Sodium Chloride may be added to adjust tonicity
Adequan I.A., I.M. Equine (polysulfated
glycosaminoglycan)
Adequan I.A. is sold in 6-packs of
1-mL vials. Each vial contains 250 mg polysulfated glycosaminoglycan.
Adequan I.M. is sold in 5 mL and 50
mL vials containing 100 mg polysulfated glycosaminoglycan per mL.
Adequan I.A. Ingredients (per mL):
Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan 250 mg and Water for Injection q.s. Sodium
Hydroxide and/or Hydrochloric Acid added when necessary to adjust pH.
Adequan I.M. Ingredients (per mL):
Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan 100 mg, Benzyl Alcohol 0.9% v/v as a
preservative, and Water for Injection q.s. Sodium Hydroxide and/or Hydrochloric
Acid added when necessary to adjust pH.
Warnings:
Keep this product out of reach of children
and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Adequan Canine is intended only for
use in dogs. Do not use in humans or in other animals.
Use this medication as prescribed.
CAUTION: The safety of Adequan
Canine in pregnant, lactating, and breeding dogs has not been established.
Use with caution in animals with liver
or kidney disease and in those with coagulation or clotting disorders.
Overdose with Adequan Canine is rare.
Indications of toxicity include joint pain, swelling, and lameness.
Seek immediate veterinary care.
Side effects are uncommon and generally
mild. They may include pain or irritation at the site of injection,
diarrhea, clotting impairment, or other adverse reactions. Consult your
veterinarian about any observed side effects.
Not for use in dogs with hypersensitivity
to polysulfated glycosaminoglycan. Facial swelling, itching, cold limbs,
hives, rash, seizures, shock, and coma are common signs of an allergic
reaction. Seek emergency veterinary treatment.
Talk to your veterinarian before using
any other drugs or supplements while your dog is taking Adequan Canine.
