Great meds! My 12 year old dog has a collapsed trachea and was coughing or hacking all the time, it became so bad that he would lose his balance. After the vet put him on this medicine the coughing stopped and he was a much happier little boy.

Theophylline

Rating:
review-star review-star review-star review-star review-star
Pros:
  • Effective for breathing problems.
Cons:
  • Not the best med for overweight cats who already have slightly elevated blood pressure, as high blood pressure is the main side effect.
My cat has some condition that causes her to become out of breath extremely quickly, like after just 3 minutes of normal playing. Because my vet could not figure out what was wrong with her, she prescribed antibiotics for a few weeks and then this medication. Her symptoms are better and so she was diagnosed with asthma, although mostly just because we don't know what else it could be.

After trying many drugs, the vet prescribed this along with Enalapril for my 13 year old dog. She has a collapsed trachea and heart murmur. She is doing much better after taking these 2 drugs.

My vet prescribed this for my 14 year old cat with valvular disease; he has low blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat. This helps him to breathe easier and raises the blood pressure. However, she charged me $9.00 for 4 pills (1 week supply). I can get a 6 months supply here for only $12.87!
