Cat and Dog Eye Antibiotics

Gentamicin antibiotics are effective at treating conjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria in cats and dogs. Gentamicin pet medications are available as an ophthalmic ointment or as a liquid solution.

Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic available as an ointment and as a solution to treat conjunctivitis due to bacterial infections in cats and dogs. The medication quickly works to eliminate the infection and ease itching, inflammation, and other symptoms.

Gentamicin Ophthalmic Ointment Other Ingredients: Mineral Oil, White Petrolatum

Use Gentamicin only as directed by your veterinarian.

Do not allow children to apply the drops or ointment to any animal.

Tell your veterinarian about any other eye drops or medications your pet is taking before using Gentamicin.

Ointment Directions:

  1. Apply a 1/2-inch ribbon of ointment into the infected conjunctival sac.
  2. Repeat dosing every 4 hours or as prescribed by your veterinarian.

Solution Directions:

  1. Shake the bottle well before use.
  2. Use care not to touch the dropper to any surface or to the affected eye.
  3. Apply 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s).
  4. Use every 4 hours or as prescribed by your veterinarian.

Frequency of Use:

Gentamicin is not indicated for long-term use due to a risk of ototoxicity and nephrotoxocity.

Storage:

Store Gentamicin at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep the bottle capped when not in use.

It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Warnings:

Keep this product out of reach of children and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.

Gentamicin is intended for use on cats and dogs only. The solution may sometimes be used on horses. Do not use on humans or other animals.

CAUTION: Some animals may develop an allergic reaction to this medication. If signs of a skin rash or other allergic reaction occur, discontinue use and consult your veterinarian immediately.

Do not use if a viral infection, such as herpes, is present. Use of Gentamicin in such cases may prolong or worsen the viral infection and compromise health.

Gentamicin Ointment may cause transient irritation or burning and may cause lid margin crusting.

Gentamicin Solution may cause sensitivity to light, eyelid itching, blurred vision, redness, burning, stinging, and eye irritation.

Gentamicin is not indicated for long-term use due to a risk of ototoxicity and nephrotoxocity.

Do not use Gentamicin in animals with a known allergy to it or to similar medications.
