Clindamycin Antibiotics for Dogs
Clintabs are an antibiotic tablet for use in the
treatment of dental infections, osteomyelitis, and skin infections.
After ingestion, the clindamycin in Clintabs is rapidly absorbed from
the gastrointestinal tract of dogs, allowing for antibacterial serum
levels within 15 minutes following dosage administration.
Clintabs is an antibiotic effective against abscesses,
dental infections, soft tissue infections, and osteomyelitis in pets.
Clintabs works against both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria to treat
infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Bacteroides fragilis, Clostridium
perfringens, and others.

Use this medication only as directed by your veterinarian.
The standard therapeutic oral dose of clindamycin
in dogs is 2.5 mg per pound of body weight every 12 hours.
Canine Abscesses, Dental Infections,
and Wounds Directions:
- Give dogs 2.5 mg per pound of body weight every 12
hours.
- Evaluate improvement after 3 to 4 days. Discontinue
use of Clintabs if no response is noted in cases of acute infections.
- Continue therapy for up to 28 days in cases of chronic
infections.
Canine Osteomyelitis Directions:
- Give dogs 5.0 mg per pound of body weight every 12
hours.
- Continue treatment for a minimum of 28 days.
- Evaluate at 28 days and discontinue treatment if
no improvement is noted. Continue treatment if symptoms are improving.
Frequency of Use:
Duration of treatment depends on the condition being
treated. Follow your veterinarian's instructions.
Storage:
Store Clintabs at controlled room temperature, between
68 and 77 degrees F. Keep container tightly closed and out of reach
of children and animals.
It is a violation of Federal
Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Clintabs contains clindamycin hydrochloride, a semisynthetic
antibiotic that works by inhibiting protein synthesis in the cell of
bacteria. Clindamycin causes irreversible changes to the protein-synthesizing
subcellular elements of cell walls at the ribosomal level. This action
destroys the bacteria responsible for infection.

Warnings:
Keep this product out of reach of children and animals.
Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Clintabs is intended for use in dogs only. Do not
use in horses or other animals. Do not give to humans.
CAUTION: Do not give Clintabs to animals
with a history of sensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin.
Do not give Clintabs to hamsters, rabbits, chinchillas,
horses, guinea pigs, or ruminants due to potentially adverse gastrointestinal
effects.
Use cautiously when treating atopic animals.
Perform liver and kidney function tests periodically
during prolonged therapy with Clintabs. Prolonged use of medications
containing clindamycin also requires periodic blood counts.
Animals with severe liver and kidney disease may
not respond well to Clintabs.
Use with caution in animals taking neuromuscular
blocking agents.
It is not known if Clintabs can be safely used in
gestating females or breeding males.
The most common side effects associated with use
of this medication include diarrhea and vomiting.
Do not use this medication in animals with a known
allergy to it or to similar medications.
