Potentiated Penicillin for Dogs and Cats

Clavamox (amoxicillin/clavulanate) is an antibiotic used to treat penicillin susceptible infections. Clavamox is the first and only potentiated penicillin approved for use in dogs and cats.

Clavamox is a combination broad-spectrum oral antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in cats and dogs. The antibiotic works against a variety of infections in cats and dogs.

Benefits of Clavamox:

  • Treats multiple varieties of bacterial infection
  • Effective against skin and soft-tissue infections, including skin injuries, abscesses, and cellulitis
  • Effective for persistent pyodermas (inflammatory lesions containing pus)
  • Works on some urinary tract, periodontal, respiratory, and ear infections
  • Generally considered safe
  • Easily administered tablets or liquid drops

Clavamox is for cats and dogs only. Do not use in other animals. Not for use in humans. Not for use in any animal for which it has not been prescribed.

Do not allow children to administer Clavamox.

Read the manufacturer-provided instructions and precautionary statements before use.

Use exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian.

Clavamox Tablets Directions:

  1. Administer Clavamox with food.
  2. Remove only the current dose from its foil packaging.
  3. Give cats 62.5 mg twice per day for the prescribed time period.
  4. Give dogs 6.25 mg per pound of body weight twice per day for the prescribed time period.

Clavamox Liquid Directions:

  1. Administer Clavamox with food.
  2. Add 14 mL of water to the bottle and shake vigorously.
  3. Give cats 1 mL twice per day for the prescribed time period.
  4. Give dogs 1 mL per 10 lbs. of body weight twice per day for the prescribed time period.
  5. Refrigerate reconstituted Clavamox Liquid.

Frequency of Use:

Doses of Clavamox are given two times daily. The duration of treatment varies. Generally, skin and soft-tissue infections are treated for 5-7 days or until 48 hours after all symptoms have disappeared. The type and severity of an infection affects the duration of treatment. Clavamox should not be taken for more than 30 consecutive days. Complete the prescribed regimen even if all symptoms appear to be cleared up to prevent incomplete treatment.

Give a missed dose as soon as you remember it, unless it is almost time for the next dose; in such cases, skip the missed dose. Do not give a double dose unless instructed to do so by your veterinarian.

Storage:

Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Store tablets at room temperature less than 75 degrees F, protected from moisture and heat. Refrigerate the liquid suspension.

Clavamox contains amoxicillin trihydrate, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is effective against numerous gram-positive and gram-negative, aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms. Clavamox also contains clavulanate potassium to make bacteria that are normally resistant to amoxicillin sensitive to it.
