When vacationing with pets, 76% of families choose to travel by car. With so many pet owners choosing automobile travel, it’s important to consider an animal’s special needs on the road.

It’s important to schedule a vet checkup prior to travel to make sure vaccinations are up-to-date and your pet can handle the stresses of traveling by car. Pet parents should also be prepared for travel by packing the proper supplies including pet food, bottled water, pet medications and whatever else their companion might need. Once in the car, animals should be properly restrained keep both pets and passengers safe during travel.

If staying at a hotel, vacationers should make sure pets are allowed. Many hotels accommodate pets, some even offer pet sitting services or other pet-friendly amenities.
