Frequency of Use:
Temaril-P is given 2 times per day. There is an initial
dosing period of 4 days, after which the doses are halved or otherwise
appropriately reduced according to your veterinarian's recommendations.
Give a missed dose as soon as possible, unless it
is almost time for the next dose; in such cases, wait and resume the
normal schedule then. Never administer a double dose of Temaril-P.
Storage:
Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Store Temaril-P in a cool, dry location. Protect
from moisture and temperatures above 86 degrees F.
It is a violation of Federal
Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Warnings:
Keep Temaril-P out of reach of children and animals.
Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Temaril-P is only intended for use in dogs. Do not
administer to other species. Do not use in any dog for which it was
not prescribed. Not for use in humans.
CAUTION: Federal law restricts this
drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
Temaril-P would not generally be effective at treating
coughs resulting from cardiac insufficiency.
Not for use in pregnant bitches. Tell your veterinarian
if your dog is lactating.
This product is not to be used in dogs with a hypersensitivity
to any of its ingredients. Labored breathing, facial swelling, hives,
rash, itching, sudden-onset diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, and shock
are some signs of an allergic reaction. Seek emergency veterinary treatment.
Do not give Temaril-P to any animal with a serious
viral or fungal infection. It may be used in animals with a bacterial
infection, provided the infection is being controlled with antibiotics.
This medication weakens the immune response and leaves
animals more vulnerable to infection. Take precautions to prevent infections.
Do not administer any vaccine to a dog being treated
with Temaril-P without your veterinarian's knowledge and involvement.
Tell your veterinarian if your dog has diabetes mellitus
or any other health problems.
Usage, especially prolonged, calls for a gradual
dose reduction, rather than an immediate cessation of therapy.
Temaril-P may cause gastrointestinal side effects.
The likelihood can be greatly reduced by administering doses with food.
Trimeprazine may cause drowsiness, muscle weakness,
and tremors. Prednisolone may cause increased hunger, thirst, or urination,
as well as diarrhea and emesis. Other side effects, including those
associated with use of any corticosteroid, may occur. Discuss any observed
adverse effects with your veterinarian.
Side effects are generally dose-related, and may
be successfully managed with a dosage reduction.
Temaril-P can interact with a number of drugs and
supplements. Tell your veterinarian if your dog takes any other medications
or supplements, and always consult your veterinarian before concurrently
administering any new ones during therapy with Temaril-P.
Some signs of an overdose include extreme drowsiness,
hypotension, and seizures. Seek emergency veterinary attention for a
known or suspected overdose.
Prednisolone overdose does not generally cause some
of the more obvious symptoms, such as sodium retention and edema, associated
with overdose of other corticosteroids. Monitor pets for blood dyscrasias
and increased thirst or urinary output.
All precautions associated with the use of cortisone
and phenothiazine derivatives apply to Temaril-P.
