It’s important to keep pets cool during the summer to avoid a potentially deadly case of heat stroke. Symptoms of heat stroke include excessive panting, unsteadiness when standing or walking, seizures, bloody diarrhea or vomiting, a rapid heartbeat and a body temperature between 104 and 110 degrees.

To avoid a potentially tragic case of heat stroke, owners should take steps to keep pets cool during hot weather. Pets should have access to clean water at all times and should have a shady place to rest when outdoors. Owners should also avoid dog walks on asphalt to avoid foot pad burns and consider applying sunscreen to pets with light colored fur to prevent sunburn..
