Pros:
  • killed roundworm & prevents heartworm
Cons:
  • Expensive to give every month forever
Interceptor initially helped to get rid of roundworm in our dog, and now he continues to take to prevent heartworm. He is certainly feeling better than before. He eats a lot more than he used to and always wants more food. Before heartworm he just didn't seem very interested in food. I am not sure whether he really needs to keep taking it to prevent heartworm, but since the drug acted to get rid of the roundworm and as a preventative we decided to get it. To prevent heartworm he will take it every month for the rest of his life. Seems like a lot, and might be unnecessary.

Pros:
  • Dogs love them
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • like all heartworm medication
My dogs have taken Interceptor all of their lives. One is 14 and the other is 12. In the south, you should protect against heartworms year round. Can't say that they would have gotten heartworms without Interceptor, but there's no point in taking chances!
