Anti-Inflammatory Steroid Pet Medications

Solu-Delta Cortef is for use when a rapid anti-inflammatory or adrenal glucocorticoid effect is necessary. The medication is used to treat shock, allergic reactions, overwhelming infections, arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions.

Solu-Delta Cortef is a rapid-acting anti-inflammatory medication used to treat lameness associated with arthritis. It is also used in the treatment of carpitis, tendinitis, bursitis, and other conditions. In some cases, treatment results in permanent cessation of symptoms. In other cases, symptoms may recur and treatment may need to be repeated.

Consult your veterinarian about the best way to administer this medication to your animal.

Directions:

  1. Give horses 50 to 100 mg intravenously or intramuscularly as an initial dose. Repeat at intervals of 12, 24, or 48 hours, depending on the horse's size and condition.
  2. Give dogs 2.5 to 5 mg per lb. of body weight intravenously as an initial dose. Follow with equal maintenance doses at intervals of 1, 3, 6, or 10 hours, depending on the dog's condition.
  3. Give dogs and cats 1 to 50 mg, depending on body weight, intramuscularly to treat non-urgent conditions. Repeat dosing in 12 to 24 hours and continue for 3 to 5 days.

Frequency of Use:

Treatment is usually daily or on alternate days, depending on the type and severity of the condition being treated.

Storage:

Store Solu-Delta in the original carton, away from light, at controlled room temperature of 68 to 77 degrees F. Use reconstituted product immediately; do not store.

It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Solu-Delta is a derivative of hydrocortisone that provides 4 times the anti-inflammatory and glucocorticoid activity. The medication works by suppressing the basic processes of inflammation to provide rapid relief of symptoms. Solu-Delta Cortef is for intravenous or intramuscular use.

Solu-Delta Cortef 100 mg Ingredients: Prednisolone sodium succinate equivalent to prednisolone 10 mg, Monobasic sodium phosphate anhydrous 0.075 mg, Dibasic sodium phosphate dried 0.81 mg, Lactose hydrous 19.6 mg, Tyloxapol 4.9 mg, Chlorobutanol anhydrous (chloral deriv.) added as preservative 3.08 mg

Warnings:

Keep this product out of reach of children and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.

Solu-Delta is intended for use in cats, dogs, and horses only. Not for other animals or for use in humans. For intravenous or intramuscular use only.

CAUTION: Federal (USA) law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian

Administering a corticosteroid medication during the last trimester of pregnancy may induce the first stage of parturition. It may also precipitate premature parturition and increase the risk of dystocia, retained placenta, fetal death, and other problems.

Giving corticosteroids to dogs, rodents, and rabbits during pregnancy may cause cleft palate or other congenital anomalies.

This medication may suppress systemic manifestation of infections or other conditions.

Side effects may include delayed wound healing, polyuria, polydipsia, glycosuria, potassium loss, euphoria, increased appetite, and sodium retention.

Do not use Solu-Delta in animals with a known allergy to it or to similar medications.
