For Use In: Dogs over
6 weeks of age. Rimadyl is sometimes prescribed off-label for other
small animals and birds. Do not administer this product to dogs or other
animals without a prescription from a veterinarian.
Rimadyl is available in doses of 25 mg, 75 mg, or 100 mg and in quantities of 60 or 180 chewable tablets or caplets. Both forms
of Rimadyl are scored.
Directions:
- Administer in one daily
dose or divide in half and administer twice daily.
- When needed, halve chewable
tablets or caplets by placing them on a table or countertop and pressing
down on both sides of the score.
- Administer a dose two hours
before surgery when used for postoperative pain control.
- Hand-feed Rimadyl chewable
tablets to your dog, or place them in food. Caplets should be placed
in food or into your dog's mouth. Hold the mouth closed until the caplet
is swallowed.
- Monitor your dog to ensure
consumption.
- Provide plenty of water
for your dog.
Frequency of Use:
Rimadyl is given once a day, or is
halved and given twice daily as prescribed. Give a missed dose as soon
as you remember it.
Storage:
Store in original container and out
of reach of children and animals.
Keep Rimadyl at controlled room temperature,
away from moisture and heat
It is a violation of Federal Law
to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Rimadyl's active ingredient, carprofen,
is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID. It is in the same
class of drugs as ibuprofen, naproxen, and ketoprofen. Rimadyl reduces
pain, inflammation, and fevers.

Keep this product out of reach of children
and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Rimadyl is intended for dogs over 6
weeks of age. Not for cats and not for human consumption. Consult a
doctor in the event of ingestion.
CAUTION: Do not give Rimadyl
to animals with hypersensitivity to carprofen. Refrain from administering
this product to pregnant or lactating dogs, or those used for breeding.
Dogs should undergo a thorough physical
examination before being prescribed Rimadyl. Inform your veterinarian
of any other medications or supplements your dog takes, and of any allergies
to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Do not administer Rimadyl to pregnant or
lactating dogs, dogs used for breeding, or dogs with an ulcer, bleeding
in the stomach, bleeding disorders, high blood pressure, edema, liver
disease, kidney disease, heart disease, or congestive heart failure.
Dogs that have experienced complications
from other NSAIDs may have similar problems with the carprofen in Rimadyl.
The most common side effect is an upset
stomach. Others include stomach ulcers, diarrhea, vomiting, diminished
appetite, tarry or dark stools, increased thirst and urination, anemia,
pale gums, jaundice of the gums, skin, or whites of the eyes, lack of
coordination, lethargy, seizure, or behavioral changes. Many of these
side effects may indicate problems with the liver or kidney, or other
potentially serious complications, so stop treatment and consult your
veterinarian right away.
Cyclooxygenase inhibitory NSAIDs, including
carprofen, may be associated with gastrointestinal, kidney, and liver
toxicity.
Signs of an allergic reaction include
scratching, hives, swelling (especially in the face), rapid-onset vomiting
or diarrhea, shock, cold limbs, seizures, pale gums, and loss of consciousness.
Seek immediate veterinary attention.
