Dog Arthritis and Pain Reliever Medication

Novox (generic form of Rimadyl) is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for dogs that is used to relieve pain and inflammation. Novox pet meds are commonly prescribed to treat the symptoms of arthritis in dogs and hip dysplasia, or to relieve postoperative pain following orthopedic surgeries or dental procedures. Novox (Carprofen) is available in 25 m, 75 mg, and 100 mg doses in quantities of 60 or 180 caplets.

Novox (Carprofen) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, or NSAID, used to relieve inflammation and pain in dogs. Novox is a non-narcotic medication in the same class of drugs as ibuprofen and naproxen.

Use this product only for dogs. Do not use for cats or other animals.

Keep out of reach of children. Do not allow children to administer Novox. Read directions and precautionary statements before use.

The recommended dosage of Novox in dogs is 2 mg/lb of body weight total per day. Dosing should be once or twice daily. Calculate dosages in half-tablet increments using scores on tablets.

Directions:

    1. Give Novox about 2 hours prior to surgery to ease postoperative pain.
    2. Halve tablets, when necessary, by placing the product on a hard surface and pressing down firmly on both sides of the score mark.
    3. Give by mouth, with or without food. Monitor your dog to ensure the entire dose is swallowed.
    4. Make plenty of water available to your dog while treating with Novox.

Frequency of Use:

Use as needed, before and after surgery or as a treatment for arthritis in dogs.

Storage:

Store in original container and out of reach of children and animals.

Store this product at controlled room temperature in a childproof container.

It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Novox is used to treat inflammation and pain resulting from arthritic conditions and associated with orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries in dogs.

For Use In: For use in dogs 6 weeks of age and older. This medication is not for use in cats or humans.

Like other drugs in its class, Novox is believed to work by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase. Novox both reduces pain and minimizes inflammation.

Novox (carprofen)

Warnings:

Keep this product out of reach of children and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.

Novox is intended for use in dogs only.

CAUTION: Cyclooxygenase inhibitory NSAIDs may potentially cause renal and gastrointestinal toxicity.

The most frequently reported adverse side effects of using Novox involve the gastrointestinal system. Side effects may include loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomiting, tarry or dark stools, increased thirst, increased urination, pale gums, yellow eyes or skin, lethargy, seizures, and behavioral changes. Rarely, this medication may cause death.

Adverse events involving dermatologic, renal, neurologic, hepatic, and hematologic systems have also been reported. Animals with existing health conditions and those that are dehydrated are at greatest risk for these adverse effects.

Using Novox along with other NSAIDs increases the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and other side effects.

Do not use Novox in dogs with known or suspected bleeding disorders, as safety in such cases has not been established. In addition, the safety of using this medication in breeding, pregnant, and lactating dogs is not known. Do not use this medication in animals less than 6 weeks of age.

Report suspected or known overdose to a veterinarian immediately. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, blurred vision, panting, reduce urine output, stomach pain, headache, slow breathing, and seizures.
