Calming Pheromones for Cat Anxiety

Feliway is a synthetic version of feline facial pheromone which is used to stop or prevent cat spraying. Feliway pheromones are also used to calm cats during stressful situations including new homes, traveling, and visits to the vet.

The Feliway spray and refillable electric diffuser mimic the effects of a calming feline facial pheromone. These products soothe the anxiety, fear, nervousness, and other emotional upset cats experience in response to environmental changes and disturbances. Feliway reduces or stops urine marking and stress-related behaviors in cats, including scratching, eating less, and acting less interested in play or other interactions.

Benefits of Feliway:

  • Reproduces the comforting effects of a natural pheromone cats spread from their faces to mark areas they know to be safe
  • Reduces emotional disturbances resulting from the presence of unknown people or animals, thunderstorms or other sources of loud or continuous noises, travel, a new home, boarding, grooming, and other changes to the environment
  • Stops urine marking
  • Helps stop behaviors and changes in activity associated with stress
  • Available in a plug-in electric diffuser for around-the-clock benefits in your home
  • Diffuser covers 500 to 650 sq. ft. and works for approximately 4 weeks
  • Refill vials sold for the diffuser
  • Available in a spray for targeted and mobile effects
  • Odorless to other animals and humans and produces no effects on them

Feliway products work only on cats. They are undetectable to other animals and humans.

Feliway Spray Directions:

  1. Do not spray product on cats or other animals.
  2. Shake before use. Hold bottle vertically when spraying.
  3. Apply 1 depression of the nozzle daily about 4 inches away from places urine-marked by the cat to prevent further markings. Spray about 8 inches above the floor. Apply in the same manner to large objects and other likely urine targets.
  4. Reduce to once-weekly applications once the cat is observed rubbing its face on the wall or objects in the area. Stop treatment after 1 month in any areas where this behavior is never observed.
  5. Prevent initial markings in a new home with once-daily applications of 1 nozzle depression 4 inches from prominent objects, about 8 inches above the floor.
  6. Follow the same protocols for 45 days straight if you have elderly cats in a multiple-cat household. Reduce to once every 2 to 3 days once cats are observed rubbing their faces on walls or objects in the area.
  7. Apply only to areas already marked (typically near doors and windows) if using to prevent a sexually excited male from marking in response to the presence of a female in heat.
  8. Spray inside cages used for transport or holding 20 minutes before the cat is put inside.
  9. Spray 3 to 4 depressions of the nozzle in the cat's usual area of a vehicle before putting your pet in.
  10. Spray 1 depression of the nozzle in each corner of boarding accommodations once per day until the cat is observed rubbing its face in the treated areas.
  11. Spray 1 depression of the nozzle 8 inches up and 4 inches away from areas that are attractive for scratching. Such areas are typically fully visible and vertical.
