Anti-Inflammatory Injection for Pets & Horses

Depo-Medrol corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory pet medications for pets and horses that are injected to treat inflammation caused by disease like arthritis for up to three to four weeks.

Depo-Medrol is a powerful anti-inflammatory steroid medication in injectable form for the treatment of allergic conditions, arthritis, and other problems. It may also be used to suppress the immune system during times of acute illness or in animals suffering from autoimmune disorders. Depo-Medrol is fast acting and works for longer periods than prednisolone or prednisone.

Benefits of Depo-Medrol:

  • Treats bronchial asthma, allergic dermatitis, urticaria, eczema, and other allergic conditions
  • Relief of allergic symptoms may occur as soon as a few hours after injection
  • Reduces pain, stiffness, and lameness associated with a variety of arthritic conditions, bursitis, synovitis, and other problems
  • May prevent vascular collapse and life-threatening inflammatory reactions associated with overwhelming infections
  • More potent than prednisolone and causes fewer side effects

Use this medication only as directed by your veterinarian.

Consult your veterinarian about the proper technique for administering injectable medications.

Dose as prescribed. Do not differ from the dosing schedule given by your veterinarian.

Intramuscular Injection Directions:

  1. Give dogs the dose prescribed by your veterinarian. The typical dose for dogs ranges from 2 mg in miniature breeds to 40 mg in medium breeds. Larger dogs may require even larger doses.
  2. Give cats the amount prescribed by your veterinarian. The usual dose for cats is 10 mg to 20 mg. Dose weekly or as prescribed.
  3. Give horses the amount prescribed by your veterinarian. The typical dose for horses is 200 mg, as needed.

Intrasynovial Injection Directions:

  1. Follow the injection preparation procedure prescribed by your veterinarian.
  2. Dose based on the size of the synovial space and animal.
  3. Give dogs the dose prescribed by your veterinarian. The average dose for a large synovial space is 20 mg.
  4. Give horses the dose prescribed by your veterinarian. The average dose for a large synovial space is 120 mg.

Frequency of Use:

The duration of treatment depends on the animal and condition being treated, the severity of illness, and the individual response. When stopping long-term use, reduce the dose gradually to avoid potentially serious withdrawal effects.

Storage:

Store Depo-Medrol at room temperature, in a light-resistant and childproof container. Keep away from pets and children.

It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Depo-Medrol contains methylprednisolone, a synthetic steroid with anti-inflammatory properties that is a derivative of prednisolone. It works by blocking production of substances in the body that trigger inflammation and allergic reactions.
