Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine that binds to
specific histamine receptors in the body to reduce inflammation and
stop allergic reactions. Additionally, Cyproheptadine antagonizes serotonin
in the brain. This effect on serotonin, a neurotransmitter, increases
appetite to improve feeding and weight gain. The medication also stimulates
cortisone production and may be of benefit to pets with Cushing's disease.
