Chloramphenicol 1% Ophthalmic Ointment treats bacterial
conjunctivitis (pink eye) in cats and dogs. It kills the bacteria to
eliminate the infection and clear up associated symptoms such as redness
of the eye, discomfort, and ocular discharge.

Children should not be permitted to administer eye
drops or other medications to pets.

Directions:
- Clean the affected eye carefully of any discharge
or crust.
- Apply a small amount of ointment into the conjunctival
sac once every 3 hours for the first 48 hours.
- Thereafter, continue this regimen but omit the nighttime
doses.
- Use product until 2 days after symptoms have cleared
up. Treatment should not exceed 7 days in cats.
Frequency of Use:
Chloramphenicol 1% Ophthalmic Ointment is given every
3 hours for 48 hours, and then every 3 hours except at night.
Storage:
Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Store Chloramphenicol 1% Ophthalmic Ointment at controlled
room temperature between 59 and 77 degrees F.
It is a violation of Federal
Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It
rapidly works to inhibit the growth of a number of gram-positive and
gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus
aureus and Streptococcus hemolyticus. In the topical form of Chloramphenicol 1% Ophthalmic
Ointment, this medication treats bacterial conjunctivitis.
Warnings:
Keep Chloramphenicol 1% Ophthalmic Ointment out of
reach of children and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame
or heat.
Chloramphenicol 1% Ophthalmic Ointment is intended
for use in cats and dogs. Do not administer to other species. Do not
use in any animal for which it was not prescribed.
For external use only.
CAUTION: Federal (USA) law restricts
this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
Treatment in cats should not exceed 7 consecutive
days. Prolonged use can cause blood dyscrasias.
If your pet's condition becomes worse or does not
improve within a few days, discontinue use and consult your veterinarian.
The duration of chloramphenicol's presence in tissue
and milk has not been determined.
Do not use on any animal intended for consumption,
or any animal that produces meat, milk, or eggs.
Do not use with other eye medications unless explicitly
told to do so by your veterinarian. Consult your veterinarian before
concomitantly giving your pet any other drug or supplement during therapy
with Chloramphenicol 1% Ophthalmic Ointment.
The susceptibility of bacteria should be determined
prior to treatment.
